Interview with my bridal couple Katrin & Steffen

Interview with my bridal couple Katrin & Steffen

Katrin and Steffen from Hamburg got married in October 2021 on my favorite island La Digue and let me accompany them photographically for two days. After the trip, I sent them my infamous questionnaire. Enjoy reading the questions and answers!

01.
Why did you get married in the Seychelles and not in Germany?

We didn’t want a big wedding, but we still wanted something special. We love the sea, the beach, palm trees and the sun, so the Seychelles were perfect for us.

So we started planning our wedding in the Seychelles.

We decided on the month of October for the wedding so that our son (11 years old) could also be there (vacation). Everything worked out wonderfully with him too. He was involved everywhere and didn’t find it boring at all. You also gave him a few special tasks from time to time (e.g. looking after the photo equipment so that we could climb the rocks diligently) .

02.
Where to put the wedding dress during the flight? And which airline did you fly with?

We flew with Emirates and although the plane was almost fully booked, the wedding dress and suit were hung in Business Class. It was totally uncomplicated. To be on the safe side, we had registered the wedding dress with the airline beforehand.

03.
How did you like your wedding? How was the wedding ceremony and what did you do after the ceremony? In short: What was your wedding day like?

We thought our wedding was perfect!

We chose Grand Anse Beach for the wedding ceremony. On your recommendation, the wedding ceremony took place relatively early (at around 9 am). This was also a good decision, as we had the beach almost to ourselves and were able to take some wonderful pictures.

After the wedding ceremony, we drove around the island with you and stopped at various photo spots to take more pictures. In between, of course, there was a break with cool drinks.

We finished our photo shoot around midday and had a long break. We used this time to jump into the pool again and relax. Around 5 p.m. we went to Anse Source d’Argent for a sunset shoot.

A barbecue on the beach was actually planned for the evening, but we had to postpone it until the next day due to rain. So we spontaneously went out to eat in a restaurant on our wedding day.

04.
Was it complicated to get married in the Seychelles? Which documents were required? Was there a "paper war"?

It wasn’t complicated to get married in the Seychelles. Only passports and international birth certificates (in English) had to be submitted in advance. Later, the registry office in the Seychelles gave us a marriage form to fill out. Our wedding planner took care of the registration at the registry office for us. So definitely no “paperwork”!

05.
Did everything work as you had imagined?

Everything worked out great with the wedding planner you recommended. We met with you and the wedding planner at our hotel just one day before the ceremony and discussed everything (decorations, bridal bouquet, cake, drinks, hairdresser, barbecue on the beach, etc.). Although everything was at such short notice (unthinkable in Germany), everything was perfect and just as we had wished!

06.
Why did you decide to have me photograph your wedding? How did you come across me?

After we decided to get married in the Seychelles, we searched the internet for a German-speaking photographer and came across your website. The great pictures and additional information convinced us. Even after the first phone call, everything was perfect for us.

07.
Do you like the pictures?

The pictures that were taken on the two photo days we booked really turned out MEGA. So that we can admire them all the time, we have hung some of them up large in our house.

So that we also have pictures “to touch”, we also treated ourselves to a hand-bound wedding book from you and your wife. This also turned out very nicely and all our friends and family envy us for the beautiful pictures and memories.

08.
Which photo spots did you particularly like?

The sunset shoot at Anse Source d’Argent. But we also really enjoyed the shoot at Anse Patates Beach with its turquoise blue water and rocks.

09.
Were there any experiences/places/situations during our photo tours that you particularly like to remember?

We particularly enjoyed the excursion to Big Sister Island. Here we climbed up a very high rock (according to you, we were the first of your couples to climb up there). It was a challenge, especially with the wedding dress, but it was definitely worth it. The many free-roaming giant tortoises there were also great.

10.
Which hotel on La Digue did you book? Would you recommend it to other travelers?

We stayed at Le Domaine de L’Orangeraie.

The hotel is super nice, the rooms are beautifully furnished and the pool area is a dream. However, the service was sometimes not right for the price. For example, the selection at the breakfast buffet was not so good and even on the 2nd day there was still an empty Nutella jar, which was already completely empty the day before. The staff were sometimes a bit overwhelmed (we were ignored at the pool bar even though no one else was there, after about 10 minutes of waiting we left). The prices in the hotel for food and drinks are very high.

Nevertheless, we would recommend this hotel because the location and facilities are unique.

11.
Which islands of the Seychelles did you visit and where did you like it best?

We spent 7 days on Mahé and 7 days on La Digue. We liked it best on La Digue because it is simply quieter. Cruising around the island by bike was fun.

12.
Are there any hotels that you would like to mention in a particularly positive light? Have you also come across accommodation that you would advise against?

We really liked the hotel on Mahé “The H-Resort Beau Vallon Beach”. Everything was just right here: the service, good food, beautiful beach in front of the hotel, good location (restaurants and supermarkets nearby) and a nice big pool.

13.
Will you visit the Seychelles again? If so, what would you do differently from the previous trip? And what would you do again if necessary?

Definitely yes! We will definitely visit the island of Praslin. In addition, we would probably no longer book a hotel, but only vacation apartments. This will definitely make it cheaper.

A rental car is worthwhile on Mahé, so you can explore the island independently. We can also highly recommend excursions, you learn so much about the Seychelles.

We would definitely book our trip again through Kidd Lavigne (Lavigne Reisen). He is simply great and knows his way around perfectly (a native Seychellois). He looked after us really well and organized everything perfectly (hotels, flights, transfers). Kidd had an answer to every question and was always available.

14.
Why should couples who want to get married in the Seychelles use my services?

Because you do very good work! It’s obvious that you are passionate about photography. You know your way around La Digue and the surrounding area and find the perfect photo spots. You know all the rocks by heart and can explain exactly how to get up there – amazing!

We are especially grateful to you that you offered to postpone the shoot to your day off on our 2nd shooting day, when it was unfortunately quite cloudy. So we had 2 wonderful sunny days.

15.
What advice would you like to give to couples who would like to get married in the Seychelles in the near or distant future? Do you have any recommendations that you would like to get rid of?

Take the plunge, because it’s worth it!

And of course booking Torsten Dickmann as your photographer guarantees beautiful photos 

We thank you for the unforgettable days, nice conversations and of course for the many great pictures. It was perfect!

All the love

Katrin, Steffen and Luca
