Andrew-Amers Morrison simply wanted to relax in the Seychelles, take a holiday, get away from it all; and he was promptly engaged as national coach of the Indian Ocean archipelago - a true Christmas fairy tale.
No director could have staged this comedy of confusion better: junior coach Andrew-Amers Morrison from England travels to the Seychelles for Christmas vacation and is mistaken there for the former defender of Manchester City, who is also called Andy Morrison.
The holidaymaker plays the hide-and-seek game, does not reveal his true identity. and before he knows it, the football association of the tropical islands holds a two-year contract up in front of his nose. by the time the officials notice the misunderstanding, it is already too late. "we thought we were getting the real Andy Morrison," says the stunned association president Suketu Patel, "instead, we have now hired an impostor.
But football officials are also men of honour in the Indian Ocean. the contract remains valid. the 40-year-old is now to prove his coaching skills in a six-month probationary period. many of his colleagues may envy him for his job.
