The Seychelles are a year-round paradise for beach and nature vacationers – that’s what the tourism advertising says, but that’s also what many objective travel reports say. As the latest tourism statistics show, the number of visitors to the Seychelles is also increasing noticeably. The most important statement from the current annual statistics: In 2010, the Seychelles welcomed a record number of foreign visitors.
176,088 foreign visitors were counted in 2010, more than ever before in the country’s history. This was 11% more than in 2009, when 159,226 foreign visitors came to the 115-island republic. Income from foreign tourism, which is economically vital for the Seychelles, also rose to an all-time high in 2010.
As in previous years, the most important countries of origin in 2010 were in Europe. The only exception is South Africa, which is comparatively close (see table in the web article in the link above).
The number of visitors from Germany also rose year-on-year (2009 saw around 19,700 arrivals). However, a similar number of German tourists came to the Seychelles in 2008 as in the record year of 2010.
A restructuring of the Seychelles Tourism Board (the central tourist board of the Seychelles – STB), broad cooperation between the STB and the private tourism industry as well as increased international marketing activities are among the reasons cited for the positive development. Z. For example, great efforts have been made to counteract the outdated idea that the Seychelles are only a vacation destination for the “rich and famous”. In fact, Seychelles vacationers have long been able to take advantage of many inexpensive hotel and package deals.
