Andrew-Amers Morrison simply wanted to relax in the Seychelles, take a vacation, get away from everyday life; and was promptly hired as the national coach of the Indian Ocean archipelago. A true Christmas fairy tale.
No director could have staged this comedy of mistaken identity better: Junior coach Andrew-Amers Morrison from England travels to the Seychelles for his Christmas vacation and is mistaken for the former Manchester City defender, who is also called Andy Morrison.
The vacationer plays the game of hide-and-seek, not revealing his true identity. And before he knows it, he is offered a two-year contract by the Football Association of the Tropical Islands. By the time the officials realize the misunderstanding, it is already too late. “We thought we were getting the right Andy Morrison,” says the baffled association president Suketu Patel, “instead we’ve signed an impostor.”
But soccer officials are also men of honor in the Indian Ocean. The contract remains valid. The 40-year-old will now have a six-month trial period to prove his coaching skills. Many of his colleagues are probably envious of his job.
